What is one-to-one mentoring?
One-to-one mentoring is about building a relationship between two members of the community; a volunteer mentor and a primary school student. All we ask of our Mentors is to bring kindness, compassion and curiosity to see the world through a child’s eyes. This goes a long way for a child that often lacks emotional support from an adult in their life. By simply being there for a child one hour a week, you can make a lasting impact on their life. Mentoring is not a one-way street – there is so much to be gained for both the mentor and student.

Fullness in life comes when you pour yourself out for others
Through our one-to-one mentoring program, our volunteer mentors help identify a child’s spark and then seek to strengthen and grow that spark to help foster resilience and confidence.
Our tailored program is built to support primary aged students. We focus our mentoring around a guided 12 Buckets model for the student that has four core qualities: Independence, Belonging, Mastery and Generosity.
What makes a mentoring experience special?
At 12 Buckets, we work with our mentors to build resilience in students. It’s all about understanding and identifying the strengths you see in your student and then empowering them to build upon those strengths. We do this by getting to know our students through games, building Lego, making music, playing sports, the list goes on!
12 Buckets is a safe space for kids to take a break, focus on themselves, dream big and know anything is possible!
How can I become a mentor with 12 Buckets?
We are so glad you asked!
Our 12 Buckets mentors are our superheroes. We believe that when we work together, we can all achieve great things and have a truly positive impact in the lives of our students. But more importantly, 12 Buckets is also an opportunity for our mentors to learn and grow within our program too!
We need our volunteer mentors to be able to commit to our program for 12 months. The time commitment we need is 1 day per week for 1 hour, during the school day, during school term.
